Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if my child needs an evaluation?

Oftentimes, we receive referrals from pediatricians, Developmental Pediatricians, Neurologists, or Psychologists for children who are recommended for an evaluation. These can be a great start for guiding you, if you already have contact with one of these professionals.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, reach out to us and we’ll be happy to walk you through if an evaluation might be necessary.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

Check out our Contact page for more information about initiating services. You can fill out our online intake form here and we’ll call you back within 24-48 business hours. (Note: Our business hours are Monday - Thursday).

  • How many sessions will my child need?

The number of sessions per week that your child is recommended to receive will be discussed during your initial evaluation. Many parents want to know how long therapy will be ongoing for their child, which is difficult to predict. In initial evaluations, we can gather some information that determines a child’s stimulability for certain skills, meaning how quickly they pick up on skills and implement feedback. From there, we’re able to make some predictions. Bring this question with you to your initial evaluation!

  • My child can be pretty reluctant with new people. Can they still participate in speech therapy?

Absolutely! There are many strategies we can take to get even the most reluctant (or shy) kids interested in speech therapy. We might ask you for information about their interests and their favorite toys, so we can build a relationship with them about their preferred interests. As a child-led, play-based speech practice, we can follow your child’s lead, playing alongside them, and gradually increase the level of skills being worked on as your child is ready. Read more about our approach here.

  • What insurance do you accept?

We are an in-network provider for BCBS TX. We are out-of-network for all other insurances.

  • What type of payment do you accept?

We accept credit cards, including HSA and FSA cards.

  • Will you see my child in our home?

No, we are not currently providing home-based supports. There are a variety of companies in the Austin area that offer that service.

  • What if my child is sick or I need to cancel?

We kindly ask that you reach out as soon as you know your child will not be able to make it for services. In the event of planned absences or missing due to other appointments, the more notice we have, the more likely we can reschedule you to another date or time. If your child is suddenly ill, please cancel as soon as possible.

Due to the nature of being a mobile, community-based clinic, we recognize this presents additional challenges in remembering which day it is and whether your child’s absence from school or other therapies will impact their speech attendance. When in doubt, send us a message so that we know and don’t show up to your child’s school on a day they might be absent.
